ARCOmadrid 2026 has awarded the 2nd Juana de Aizpuru Prize to Galería Elvira González, in recognition of its distinguished trajectory and long-standing commitment to the International Contemporary Art Fair.
The award highlights the gallery’s role within both the national and international art ecosystem, as well as its close ties to the fair since its early years.
“We feel truly honored to receive this award in recognition of the work of the gallery and the profession of gallerist,” said Elvira and Isabel Mignoni, directors of the gallery. “ARCO is a home for us — the best platform we have had both nationally and internationally — and receiving this prize strengthens our bond with the fair of our city.”
Over Three Decades as a Reference in the Gallery Sector
Galería Elvira González opened in Madrid in February 1994. Founded by Elvira González — a leading figure in Spanish gallerism after directing Galería Theo for 30 years — the space is now led by her daughters, Elvira and Isabel Mignoni.
Specializing in European and American modern and contemporary art, the gallery has organized exhibitions featuring key figures such as Mark Rothko, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, Sol LeWitt, Gego, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Michelangelo Pistoletto, as well as established contemporary artists including Olafur Eliasson, Miquel Barceló, Chema Madoz, and Juan Uslé, among others.
The gallery also collaborates with leading museums and cultural institutions, maintains an extensive inventory of major 20th and 21st century artists, and advises on the development of private and institutional collections.
Award Ceremony at ARCOmadrid 2026
The presentation of the 2nd Juana de Aizpuru Prize will take place on Friday, March 6, at 1:00 pm at the ARCO Forum (stand 9A32).
Organized by IFEMA MADRID, ARCOmadrid 2026 will celebrate its 45th edition from March 4 to 8 in halls 7 and 9 of the Madrid fairgrounds. The event will once again position Madrid as one of the leading international meeting points for the contemporary art market.
With this recognition, ARCO reaffirms its commitment to galleries that have played a decisive role in consolidating its global standing.
