The Museum of Contemporary Spanish Realism (MUREC), located in the former Provincial Hospital of Almeria, is preparing for its official opening on March 15, 2024. This museum, the first of its kind in the entire country, promises to be an indispensable enclave for art and culture in Spain.
The Space and the Restoration
The Provincial Hospital, a 16th century civil construction in the heart of Almería, has been meticulously restored to become a museum and exhibition space. The restoration has preserved its original essence, respecting its historical architecture. The building, now home to the MUREC, offers 20 rooms to house the impressive collection of works of art.
The Permanent Collection
The MUREC’s permanent exhibition is made up of more than 200 pieces on loan to the Provincial Council of Almeria. These works include paintings, sculptures, drawings and engravings made by a cast of 111 Spanish realist artists active between 1900 and the present day.
